7.7-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Panama, Triggering Tsunami Warnings

The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 12.6 kilometers near Panama’s southern coast, according to the US Geological Survey. Reports described a cathedral collapse and widespread public alarm, while tsunami warnings spread after the quake. The Panama Canal remained operational, but authorities continued evaluating infrastructure, coastal communities and the risk of aftershocks.
