About 159 million Brazilians are eligible to vote in Sunday’s election, which has been marked by intense polarization, security concerns and bitter exchanges between the leading candidates. Campaigns led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and right-wing Senator Flávio Bolsonaro have both expressed confidence ahead of the first-round vote. The election is among the day’s most consequential global political developments, although final results and any immediate disputes remain uncertain.
