Oman’s Defense Ministry reported the attack and subsequent evacuation, but publicly available reports did not identify the perpetrators or provide a confirmed motive. The incident occurred amid heightened regional tensions and follows repeated threats to commercial shipping in waters linking the Gulf, Gulf of Oman and wider Indian Ocean. Authorities are expected to investigate the vessel’s damage, crew condition and the circumstances of the attack.
