Ethiopia-Tigray fighting threatens renewed regional war

The reported recapture of the airport in Tigray’s regional capital marks a significant battlefield development, although the claim came from a militia allied with Ethiopia’s federal government and requires independent confirmation. Reuters reported that federal forces and allied fighters have launched a rapid counterattack into an opposition stronghold, while analysts described the fighting as the worst escalation since the previous civil war. The development carries wider regional implications because renewed conflict in Tigray could destabilize northern Ethiopia and increase tensions among neighboring countries already affected by the earlier war.
