The storm’s landfall is the most immediate global emergency among the reported breaking developments because it threatens populated coastal areas with dangerous winds, storm surge, flooding and power outages. The National Hurricane Center said Isaias came ashore Friday near Destin, Florida, while emergency services prepared for widespread impacts. A separate major hurricane, Simon, was also strengthening near Mexico, adding to the regional disaster risk. The situation remains subject to rapid change as authorities assess damage and issue updated warnings.
