Ethiopian forces seize Tigray capital as conflict risks wider regional war

Ethiopian government forces and allied militias have retaken Mekelle, the capital of Tigray, from the opposition alliance, according to sources cited by Reuters. The escalation is reportedly the worst since the 2020–2022 civil war and could spread across the Horn of Africa.
