Iran and U.S. clash over Strait of Hormuz reopening

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi reportedly presented Tehran’s conditions to U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff during talks on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Trump said Washington was prepared to help rebuild Iran if it chose diplomacy but warned that the United States could “annihilate” the country if it rejected a deal. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman separately called for safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The situation remains highly volatile because disruption in these waterways could affect international shipping, oil supplies and regional security.
