US and Iran trade new strikes as conflict sharply escalates

According to major international outlets, the U.S. military carried out a new wave of strikes against targets linked to Iran’s military, including air defense sites, radar systems and maritime assets, as part of a renewed campaign to deter Iranian moves in key waterways and regional conflict zones.[4][14] Iran has reportedly answered with its own barrage of missiles and drones against U.S.-aligned states and interests, framing the attacks as retaliation for recent American strikes and accusing Washington of an assault that it says killed several civilians at a wedding and wounded dozens.[4][10][14] The exchanges end what had been one of the quietest periods in the confrontation in months, raising fears of a broader regional war that could disrupt global energy supplies, draw in additional state and non-state actors, and complicate diplomatic efforts around Iran’s nuclear program and an interim deal that Tehran says Washington must fully honor.[4][9][14]
