US strikes cargo vessel amid Iran blockade escalation

CENTCOM said the vessel was struck after its crew was instructed to abandon targeted areas, while reports identified it as the Saint Kitts and Nevis-flagged M/V Huda. The action comes as Washington expands pressure on Iran through a new task force targeting weapons transfers, sanctioned materials and revenue routes across Iran’s land borders and the Caspian Sea. The incident’s wider consequences remain unclear, including the vessel’s condition, possible casualties and whether Iran or affiliated forces will respond. Separately, the US military’s intensified maritime posture could disrupt commercial shipping and increase insurance and security risks throughout the Gulf of Oman and nearby waterways.
