US strikes Iranian tankers as Hormuz tensions escalate

According to international wire and broadcast reports, U.S. forces have struck three Iranian oil tankers following what Washington describes as ballistic missile attacks on its warships in or near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit routes.[7][4] Iranian authorities are signaling plans to declare a new ‘exclusion zone’ around parts of the strait, raising the risk of direct clashes with U.S. and allied navies and of serious disruption to global energy supplies that depend on safe passage through these narrow waters.[7][8] Crisis monitoring organizations note that this confrontation is part of a wider, multi-front war dynamic involving Israel, the U.S., Iran and regional actors, warning that if it is not rapidly contained, the conflict could expand uncontrollably and have far‑reaching consequences for regional stability, shipping security and the global economy.[15] Diplomats and military planners are closely watching for further missile launches, naval incidents or formal exclusion announcements, which could quickly turn this already grave situation into a major international security and energy crisis.[7][8][15]
