Yemen forces recapture Mocha as regional military pact activated

The developments mark a significant expansion of the conflict involving Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Iran-linked Houthi forces. Houthi attacks reportedly targeted Saudi airports, an oil facility and military sites with missiles and drones, while the Saudi-led coalition said it disrupted a plot against shipping lanes in the southern Red Sea. The United Nations has expressed deep concern over the increased fighting. Control of Mocha and nearby positions matters because the area overlooks approaches to the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a major route for international maritime trade. The reported Turkish and Pakistani deployment would add new external military actors to an already volatile theatre, but the scale, timing and operational details remain unclear.
