US and Iranian military forces have exchanged fire at vessels in waters near Iran, sharply escalating tensions in a key global energy corridor.[11] The incident follows earlier Iranian claims of attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and US denials, alongside reports of Iran targeting a US naval drone after American strikes on oil tankers.[10][11]
