The latest developments mark a sharp escalation in hostilities involving the Iran-aligned Houthis, Saudi Arabia and potentially Egypt. Saudi-led forces reported intercepting two ballistic missiles and four drones, while the Houthis claimed responsibility for attacks and said they had downed a Saudi Apache helicopter. Separate reporting described strikes in Yemen that killed civilians, attacks on vessels near the Persian Gulf, and the deaths of Saudi coalition aircrew. Egypt’s stated readiness to provide defensive assistance could broaden the confrontation beyond Yemen and increase risks to regional shipping and energy infrastructure.
