SUDAN WAR DEEPENS

Sudan’s war stands out as the most important Africa story, with the United Nations warning that fighting is at risk of escalating further around El Obeid and civilians trapped in a worsening humanitarian crisis. Drone attacks and insecurity are intensifying, adding to already catastrophic conditions and making access for aid and medical relief even harder. Across the continent, other major issues include unrest in Tanzania, militant violence in Mali and Burkina Faso, and worsening food insecurity in northern Nigeria, but Sudan is the clearest regional flashpoint. The conflict has broad implications for displacement, regional stability, and humanitarian operations across Africa.
