The strike is among the most serious recent attacks on critical civilian infrastructure in the Middle East. Saudi-led forces described it as a war crime, while the Houthis had not claimed responsibility in the available reporting. The airport attack comes amid heightened tensions around the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has reportedly increased attacks on tankers, increasing the risk that further retaliation could draw in the United States and expand the conflict.[1][2]
