Israel election ends in deadlock with no clear governing majority

The election featured turnout of 77.7%, the highest in more than two decades, reflecting intense public engagement amid Israel’s ongoing security crisis. Exit polls suggested Eisenkot’s bloc had an advantage but fell short of a decisive majority, while Netanyahu claimed that his right-wing bloc could still prevail as official counting continued. The political stalemate may affect Israel’s wartime decision-making, domestic policy and relations with regional and international partners. Coalition bargaining is expected to determine whether Eisenkot receives the first opportunity to form a government or whether Netanyahu remains in office while negotiations continue.
